HoliDates v2.01 costs $9.95 for new users and $2.95 for existing v1.xx users.

Installing HoliDates

HoliDates-v201.zip contains 4 files:
  • holidates2.prc
  • holiDates2.pdb
  • HoliDates Software License Agreement.txt
  • Read_me_First.html (this file)

  • Installing HoliDates for the first time
To Install HoliDates v2.01, unzip the files. Use the Palm Desktop Install tool to add the holidates2.prc and holidates2.pdb files. You must add both files for HoliDates to work correctly. Perform a HotSync operation and HoliDates will be installed onto your Palm device.

Unregistered Mode When you first install HoliDates, it will be unregistered. In this mode you will only be able to see the dates for the year 2002. As part of the purchase process, you will be emailed an Unlock Key (5 digit registration code). Go into HoliDates on your Palm device, click on “Register” and enter the Unlock Key. This will remove the limit and the demo mode message. Holidays for the year 2002 - 2007 will now be available.

Upgrading from Version 1.xx of HoliDates

To upgrade from version 1, simply install version 2. The first time you run HoliDates v2.01, it will detect the previous version and perform the upgrade. Note: V2.01 will install as a separate application in addition to v1.xx. The installation of v2.01 will automatically migrate the status of holidays that were added into Date Book from v1.xx. However, once both are installed any future changes made by installing holidays through one version will not be reflected in the other version.

Once you have purchased V2.01, you may then delete HoliDates v1.xx by going into the launcher's menu, selecting "Delete" and deleting "HoliDates" (not HoliDates2). If you decide that you don't want to keep V2.01, then delete "HoliDates2" from your Palm device. This will leave your v1.x copy intact.

    Uninstalling HoliDates

To uninstall HoliDates from your Palm Device, go into HoliDates, remove any holidays that you have installed in Date Book. Then delete it from your device.
Note for existing users: If you are uninstalling only one version, do not remove any holidays that were installed into Date Book that you want to still have in the other version.

Using HoliDates on your Palm device

VIEW: To view all of the holidays for one or more categories, select the desired categories and click the View button. Use the year dropdown (e.g. "2002") to view the list of holidays for other years. If you have not yet entered the unlock key, then only the holidays for 2002 will be available. An unlock key is emailed to you as part of the purchase process.

Click on the name of the holiday. This will bring up a "Holiday Info" screen that will show the day the event is on, how much time is left until the event will occur and the note for that event (if any). To create or edit a note for an event, click on "Edit Note". Many of the religious holidays come with a brief description.

INSTALL: To add holidays into your Date Book, view the desired holiday categories. Select one or more holidays using the check boxes. Use the "Select->All" or "Select->None" option from the menu to make this faster. Make your selections for one or more years. When you are done, click the install button. A "Please Wait" message will appear while the holidays are being added into Date Book. When this is complete, the 'i' icon next to each holiday will indicate which holidays are installed. Clicking on the 'i' icon will take you to that date within Date . Holidays will appear in Date Book on the appropriate date as an untimed event.

Every event in Date Book created by HoliDates contains a note with a HoliDates category tag. This tag will look similar to "(HoliDates-Christian)". These tags are necessary for HoliDates to be able to find the event again should you use HoliDates to easily remove a holiday from Date Book. The descriptions provided for religious holidays are entered as a part of the note for the event. Edit the note for a given holiday within HoliDates to add additional comments. For events that have been added to Date Book, changes made to the note through HoliDates are automatically updated to the event in Date Book as well. Checking and clicking the install box twice for a holiday will not enter duplicates into Date Book.

REMOVE: To remove one or more holidays entered by HoliDates into Date Book, within HoliDates, select the holidays to remove in the same way you did for installing. If you want to remove a whole category, use the "select->all" from the menu to make checking faster. Checking holidays that were not previously added to Date Book (no 'i' icon next to the holiday) will simply be ignored by the removal process. Click the Remove button. HoliDates will automatically remove the events it had entered by using the identifying Note tag mentioned above. Removal or alteration of the tag, e.g. "(HoliDates-Christian)", within the note causes HoliDates to ignore that event. For example, if you have added additional information for planning a party to a given holiday event, you can remove the tag to make that event invisible to the HoliDates removal process.

Note: The Ripple Factory has endeavored to make sure that the content within HoliDates is accurate. However, slight variations may occur based on the calculation methods used or due to regional interpretations.
Jewish: Jewish holidays always begin at sundown of the previous day.
